COLLEGE CANSELOR  – Jiwa Putra @ Canselor Bersih 2025: Raising Student Awareness of Cleanliness at Kolej Canselor

The Jiwa Putra @ Canselor Bersih programme, involving a total of 38 co-curricular students, took place on November 15, 2025, at Kolej Canselor, Universiti Putra Malaysia. The program, organized by the Secretariat of Volunteerism and Internationalization in collaboration with the College Representative Council, was implemented to raise students' civic awareness and responsibility toward environmental cleanliness thru activities such as communal work and sustainability efforts.

The program was held following increasingly concerning hygiene issues such as irregular waste disposal, neglected green areas, and poorly maintained toilets and residential blocks. This situation has the potential to increase the risk of infectious diseases such as dengue, thereby affecting the well-being of college residents. To address this issue, the secretariat has planned a community service activity involving cleaning, painting, and planting greenery.

The participants have been divided into two groups to launch the task movement. The first group followed the Committee Members (AJK) of the Volunteerism and Internationalization Secretariat to paint the office pathway stairs, clean the fish pond area, and cut tires for the purpose of planting ornamental trees. This activity was carried out in the areas surrounding the main path and the pool yard, which is a focal point for college residents.

Meanwhile, the second group was with the Green Sustainability and Food Security Secretariat Committee Members (AJK) to carry out chili planting activities in the fertigation area. Participants were also given basic exposure to planting techniques, early plant care, and the importance of environmental sustainability. The activity not only aims to brighten up the college area but also provides new knowledge about food crop management.

Throughout the program, the students demonstrated a high level of teamwork, discipline, and concern for the tasks assigned. This program also supports the Student and Alumni Affairs (HEPA) Strategic Plan, which emphasizes volunteerism and campus life. Thru direct involvement in field activities, participants have the opportunity to hone their social skills, professionalism, and lifelong learning.

Overall, Jiwa Putra @ Canselor Bersih 2025 has successfully raised awareness about cleanliness among students and contributed to a more conducive college environment. Hopefully, the implementation of this program can strengthen the university's image as an institution that prioritizes cleanliness and student well-being, while also shaping a generation of youth who are more responsible and aware of environmental sustainability.
