Chancellor’s Kite and Wau Festival

CHANCELLOR COLLEGE – On Sunday, 25 May 2025, the Chancellor’s Kite and Wau Festival took place, organized by the Residence and Welfare Secretariat of the Student Representative Council, Chancellor College for the 2024/2025 session, in collaboration with the Chancellor College Management. This festival successfully blended elements of cultural heritage with character development and creativity among students in higher education institutions.

A total of nine student groups participated in this event, comprising both Bachelor's and Master's students from various faculties. Each team was assigned the task of designing and constructing a physical kite or wau, making this program a platform to showcase talent, perseverance, and teamwork.

This activity not only emphasized artistic and design elements but also instilled core values such as cooperation, tolerance, and systematic planning. Creating the kites and wau required high creativity and precision in manually assembling various basic materials. From designing, cutting, and decorating to testing flight effectiveness, each group was challenged in terms of practical skills and effective communication within the team.

Three top-performing teams were selected based on design uniqueness, finishing quality, and flying ability. Keris Mas was crowned Champion, followed by KTDI as First Runner-Up, and Kimia Udin in Third Place. These top three teams showcased not only aesthetically appealing creations but also demonstrated a deep understanding of traditional elements and Malay culture.

The organization of this program also had a positive impact in strengthening students' identity and appreciation of local cultural heritage. In an age dominated by technology, such activities bring the younger generation closer to traditional games rich in historical and symbolic values. Moreover, it offers students a healthy and productive break from their academic routine.

In conclusion, the Kite and Wau Festival served not only as a platform for students to express creativity but also strengthened social bonds and a spirit of togetherness. It is hoped that programs like this will continue in the future as an initiative to empower students through heritage, art, and constructive teamwork.
