College History

Chancellor College is one of the student residential colleges at Universiti Putra Malaysia, Serdang Campus, Selangor Darul Ehsan. Established in 1973, it was formerly known as Residence College and Jelapang College (from 1975) due to the naming of student dormitory blocks after types of rice, namely Murni, Masria, Malinja, and Mahsuri. Additionally, the emblem of the Fourth Residential College is based on a rice stalk, which represents a significant element in the nation's agriculture.

As the years passed and after 20 years, efforts were made to change the name of the Fourth Residential College to a new one. This initiative was started by the current College Principal during that time, Dr. Ghizan Salleh, to symbolize a college moving towards a more corporate identity and in honor of the title of the University’s Honorary Chancellor. The effort was indeed not in vain and became a reality. On the occasion of the Two Decades Celebration of the College's establishment, held on September 20, 1995, the name of the Fourth Residential College was changed to Chancellor College and was officially inaugurated by the Chancellor of Universiti Putra Malaysia (formerly known as Universiti Pertanian Malaysia), YBhg. Tun Dato' Seri Dr. Haji Hamdan Sheikh Tahir.

Chancellor College now continues to progress forward. The college population has grown to nearly 600 members and is supported by a dedicated student high council, with full support from the Chancellor College Administration, led by the Principal. This commitment ensures that Chancellor College members become the best graduates of Universiti Putra Malaysia, guided by the college motto: "KEKAL CEMERLANG" (Remain Excellent).

Universiti Putra Malaysia restructured the organization of its University Residential Colleges by merging Kolej Canselor and Kolej Keenam under a single administration, adopting the name Kolej Canselor, effective from June 15, 2019. This restructuring was part of the Governance Entity Transformation Plan by the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni). Following the merger, the number of residential colleges was reduced from 17 to just 9.
